Cardboard Box Types: Why Choosing the Right Cardboard Box Type is Key

When you are choosing between different corrugated cardboard box types it's important to consider what the purpose of the box is. Does the box need to be sturdy and long-lasting? Will the box be used to transport fresh poultry? Does the box need to open easily?

Without the right choice of box, your packaging will not meet the intended purpose. This can be detrimental and can hinder operations further down in the supply chain.

Choosing the wrong type of packaging may lead to insecure packaging. Customers may receive damaged products. You may also have to pay more for using packaging which is the wrong size. For example, instead of using cardboard packaging for drinks, you use archive storage boxes.

Types of Cardboard Boxes:

Shelf Ready Boxes

Shelf ready boxes (otherwise known as retail ready packaging) are used to transport goods from production to the shop floor securely. Products can still be displayed on the shelves whilst also remaining in some packaging. Therefore, the need for other tools, such as a perforated knife, is not required to cut through packaging tape and boxes.

Transporting your goods in shelf ready boxes will also increase your brand awareness. The inclusion of graphics on the outside of your packaging will instantly make plain packaging more interesting. It will inform people what’s inside the packaging whilst also marketing the product at the same time.

Shelf ready packaging products don’t need any other protective packaging elements inside like shredded paper and bubble wrap. Thus, helping your brand image as you are reducing waste. The reason for this is the products are so tightly compact which means there is little or no movement during transportation.

As mentioned above due to the compactness of shelf ready boxes you can save money. The amount of packaging you need will be considerably less when compared to packaging which has protective packaging elements.

Archive Storage Boxes

With many types of cardboard boxes packaging, archive storage boxes are another type. This type of box is similar to a usual box, but the lid is slightly different. Typically archive box manufacturers design the boxes in one of two ways. The lid can either be attached to the box which you can flip up to open it or the entire lid can be fully removed.

With a multitude of uses, archive storage boxes can be used for office uses, storing documents and personal items. The use of high-quality material like single wall corrugated cardboard to make the boxes allows for the archive storage boxes to last a long time whilst also protecting the contents within. The boxes can also be stacked on top of each other- helping to free up office space.

Archive storage boxes are extremely beneficial in keeping paper versions of important official documents. Original documents can be kept secure whilst also being protected from water and dust. Thus, allowing you to find the documents if you ever needed to.

This cardboard box type is also cost-effective, the cost to buy archive storage boxes is relatively low and incredibly robust once it has been assembled.

Cardboard Packaging for Drinks

Cardboard packaging for drinks relates to the packaging in which the drinks come in. This includes soft drinks, beers, wines and spirits. The use of cardboard packaging allows for the drinks to be transported safely and securely.

Cardboard packaging for drinks is made up of corrugated cardboard. Corrugated cardboard is used to absorb any impact during transit. This prevents the drinks from breaking. It also prevents anything from going through the packaging, such as rain and ruining the drinks.

This type of packaging is extremely versatile allowing you to showcase your product. Some wine bottle manufacturers design individual boxes for their wine. When this is amongst other bottles of wine on a shelf, it will immediately stand out.

Utilising print technology, such as IterumFIVE, allows for packaging to be customised. Your cardboard packaging for drinks can be an extension of your brand image and the product inside.

Postal Packs

As the name suggests cardboard postal packs are used to ship items by post door to door. It’s a lightweight, secure and durable solution for items which need to be transported; may this be a short or long distance. You can rest assured that the product within is secure and protected. It’s extremely difficult for postal packs to be accidentally opened during transportation.

The postal packs can have features such as hinged lids, self-seal strips and locking tabs which makes the process of packaging easier. This helps to cut down the time it takes for the product to be packaged and posted.

Postal packs are created using a single piece of 2d cardboard which is an irregular shape. When it is folded along the crease, a 3d postal pack is created. The shape of the postal packs can vary from a letterbox-shaped box to slightly larger designs. The Letterbox-shaped postal box allows for your package to be delivered through the letterbox ensuring that your customers receive your product each time.

Poultry Boxes

With many cardboard box types, poultry boxes are another. Made from cardboard, poultry boxes can be used to transport fresh, frozen or vacuum-packed poultry products. Examples of poultry include but in no way excluded to chicken, turkey and goose. The boxes themselves are designed to be robust whilst also ensuring that poultry can be transported hygienically. In particular, moisture is kept away from the box which helps the poultry from spoiling and reaches the customers in the best condition.

As the move away from single use plastic continues, our cardboard poultry boxes are an excellent and environmentally friendly alternative. The boxes themselves are made from recycled goods and are 100% recyclable.
